A quick hello...

We made a movie—a warm, nostalgic nod to ’80s cinema.

As a kid, movies were like my emotional support blanket.
I was too young to fully grasp any deeper meaning behind Labyrinth or The Breakfast Club—I just thought David Bowie looked insanely cool, and that high school detention actually seemed kind of fun and rebellious. Still, something about those themes and characters clicked. Even if the more
sub-textual themes went over my head, the feelings landed—and they stuck, forever.

Cameron was a Red Wings fan is in some ways my love letter to that era—big emotions, dumb laughs, and probably way too much teen angst. But instead of teenagers, this story follows siblings in their mid-thirties, still wrestling with issues that should’ve expired with their high school locker combinations. Sometimes, the past doesn’t let us grow up—it just waits for us to come back and deal with it.

Thank you for watching our movie,

Gabriel Veenendaal
writer, director

the story

After their absentee father’s passing, three estranged siblings confront their troubled past, rediscovering their bond through the very films that once united them—especially one they loved so much as children that they recreated it. Now, past meets present and that recreation holds the key to the answers they've been searching to help them move forward.
